Bio
Chief Anderson Ruan since joining the Los Angeles Police Department in 2008, Chief Anderson Ruan has accumulated over 20 years of stable experience in grassroots law enforcement, case investigation, and community policing. He was born in Los Angeles and his parents are from Guangdong. Growing up, he was deeply influenced by community support and a sense of family responsibility.
His policing career began as a patrol officer at the Central division, responsible for daily patrols, incident handling, and community visits. Due to his meticulous and reliable work attitude, he transferred to the major case team as a detective in 2012, mainly involved in the investigation of violent crimes and property crimes. At this stage, he gradually developed a case handling style that emphasizes communication and details.
In 2016, he joined the Asian Community Affairs Group and was responsible for handling community relations, language assistance, and cultural communication. He participated in promoting multiple small but effective community projects, including bilingual security briefing sessions and elderly fraud prevention campaigns.
In 2018, he was Sergeant and returned to the Central division as the community law enforcement supervisor, responsible for patrol arrangements, security analysis, and police guidance. Under his leadership, the sub bureau has achieved steady improvement in community cooperation and case handling efficiency.
In 2020, he was Captain and transferred to the Western District Police Department as the Operations Commander, responsible for patrol management, emergency response, and on-site coordination of large-scale events.
In 2022, he was promoted to Deputy Chief, mainly responsible for coordinating and planning the action department, including process improvement, cross departmental communication, and strategy execution.
In 2025, he was appointed as the Chief of Police of the Los Angeles Police Department. After taking office, he focused his work on improving policing efficiency, strengthening community connections, improving police support systems, and promoting the application of data in daily policing. He emphasized a stable and pragmatic governance approach, hoping to improve the overall level of public safety through solid foundation work.
Chief Ruan holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and has completed training courses at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Executive Academy. He has long been involved in community volunteer activities, with a particular focus on youth safety education.
